If she’d been nervous about coming, she felt like she would explode by taking each step up to the porch and then to the front door. Andy reached one hand down and squeezed Deliria’s, and with the other hand knocked three decisive times.
Was something about to happen? A touch of cold slithered over Deliria’s neck.
A tall person with a shaved head and mustache answered the door. “Andy,” they said, then glanced at Deliria.
“Don’t mind Abbott,” Andy said. “He’s just weird.”
“You’re the one who left,” he said. “Well if you’re back, then there’s still time. You could — ”
“I can’t do it,” Andy said. “Don’t you think I wish I could?”
“Then what are we supposed to do?” Abbott shook his head, foreshadowing how hard this might turn out to be.
“I don’t know, Abbott, but I have to get my stuff. Will you move out of the way?”
