My December Medium Earnings Couldn’t Buy Me a Big Mac
Why I won’t let that stop me
November 2024, my first month on Medium, I didn’t make much. $2.58 to be exact. This is still more than I made this December. Was that beginners’ luck? Perhaps.
This month, I made $0.40. Yes, 40 cents! Of course that’s not ideal, but I’m still too stubborn and determined to quit after two months.
My strong will and the following four reasons keep me going:
1. I’m still learning.
If I was here just for the money, I would already be gone.
For now, I am a Medium student who’s on a learning curve.
I’m learning which stories work well on Medium and what my audience looks like. I’m discovering which stories they enjoy and which they don’t. This information is invaluable.
I’m also learning from being a reader. I’m seeing what makes a headline clickable.
I’ve learned so far that articles that target the reader get the most clicks. These stories share the lessons that I’m still learning. That’s okay! Someday, I’ll share my own wisdom that can help fellow writers.
My , poetry, and fiction aren’t drawing in a large audience yet.
