Lamma Island (Hong Kong, China)
First and foremost, it’s the most international place I’ve ever lived in. I have lived in mega metropolises like New York, Paris, Shanghai, and even Hong Kong, where Lamma Island belongs, but none is as a melting pot as this tiny, minuscule island of 13.55 square kilometers.
We have around 6,000 inhabitants from over 45 countries. More than one-third of the children here are interracial, so more than one-third of the couples are of mixed races. In the kindergarten where my girls previously attended, one-third were local Chinese, one-third were interracial, and one-third were nationals from other countries.
Although the majority of the mixes are Asian and Western, there are some interracial couples between Asians like Chinese and Japanese and between Westerners like Swiss and American. In my case, my husband is Chilean, and I am Chinese by race.
