I Finally Get Why Men Are Fatphobic-And The Reason is Absolutely Ridiculous
“I see fat women…” — Incels
I used to think men avoided dating or even respecting fat women because they simply weren’t attracted to them. That’s what they always say, right?
“It’s just my preference.”
“I like women who take care of themselves.”
“I can’t help what I’m into.”
But then, I dug deeper (because you know, that’s what I do). And I realized something that completely changed the way I saw this.
Fatphobia isn’t about attraction (or lack thereof). It’s about social currency. Most men (not all) don’t avoid or insult fat women because they find them unattractive. They avoid them because they’re scared of how other people will see them.
In their minds; a thin, conventionally attractive woman is like a status symbol. She boosts their image. She makes them look better. She tells the world, “I’m the kind of man who CAN get a hot woman.”
Dating a fat woman, on the other hand? That’s seen as a social downgrade. Not because she isn’t beautiful, smart, or kind. But because other men won’t see her as “desirable,” and that reflects on him. This isn’t about attraction. It’s about insecurity.
