One day at the mall, I overheard a conversation in the food court that stopped me in my tracks. Amidst the chatter and clinking dishes, a tall man in a worn leather jacket said with a hint of superiority, “People who use ChatGPT aren’t that smart. They need help just to form ideas or narratives.”
A woman with glasses perched on her head, nodded in agreement. “Exactly,” she chimed in. “It’s useless. Just a machine, and half the time it gives wrong answers. Only lazy people use it. It promotes laziness.”
As I walked away, I couldn’t help but smile. Their opinions are not unique; they echo a common misunderstanding about artificial intelligence, especially with ChatGPT.
