When I was a nurse at a hospital birth center, we knew when a mom was getting close to having her baby because she would start making serious groans and sounds:

like the roar of a tiger!

When we started to hear these sounds, we got the cart ready, rolled it into the mom’s room, and prepared for the birth of the baby.

Unprepared for the pain

So, when it came time to have my first baby, I thought I was prepared. I read all the books, attended the birthing classes, practiced the breathing techniques, and had my birth plan ready for the big day.

But when the actual time came to have my baby, I was not at all ready for what was to come.

The pain was so intense and lasted much longer than I expected. I was miserable and exhausted. The pain intensified. I screamed. I cried. I breathed. I cussed. I prayed.
