I joined Medium in June 2023. Started publishing consistently in May 2024. I haven’t written much (only 51 stories) but I’ve read extensively here.

I saw great writers leaving after the algorithm change. Saw the grievances, and worries of confused writers.

Though I am not a successful writer here, Medium is still the best online platform for me as a reader and writer.

One of the main reasons is that I can just post and leave. Unlike other platforms. I don’t have to waste my time on shallow engagements (I don’t mean community engagement).

Here are some of my observations of the past one and a half years:

  1. Medium is anti-social media. Commenting and follow-for-follow don’t work here. Not regarded organic growth.
  2. Medium is anti-niche. You can write about anything here (following the community guidelines).
  3. Should experiment with different topics rather than writing in a niche. Readers’ interests keep changing.
  4. The algorithm is dynamic like other social platforms.
