Picture forests of rolling grass carved by creeks, with bunnies dressed in human clothing. Now, imagine a man running through this idyllic scene in boxer shorts and a blue bird mask. This is the protagonist of “Shangri La Frontier,” a new show by C2C, directed by Toshiyuki Kubooka, which puts a fresh twist on isekais (anime where the protagonist is summoned to another world). This series promises to be the show fans have been asking for since the likes of “Sword Art Online.”
“Shangri-La Frontier” focuses on the life of high school student and game-obsessive Rakuro Hizutome. In this version of Japan, virtual reality massively multiplayer online games (VRMMOs) have become the dominant way to play, overwhelming the market with “trash games.” So called due to their countless bugs and glitches. Hizutome loves playing and winning these ridiculously difficult VRMMOs, often exploiting the bugs he discovers.
However, after suffering through “Faeria Chronicle Online,” the worst of the worst, he decides to take a chance on a “God Tier experience”: the only game with over thirty million players worldwide, “Shangri La Frontier” (SLF). Hizutome eagerly…
