I never thought I’d find enlightenment between Netflix binges and midnight pizza runs. But there I was, cross-legged on my IKEA floor cushion, trying not to think about thinking. (Spoiler alert: It’s harder than it sounds!)

Let me back up a bit.

My journey into Buddhism started with a TikTok video, of all things. Some guy was talking about how attachment causes suffering while his cat knocked over his meditation cushion. The irony wasn’t lost on me.

I decided to give it a month. Just 30 days. What’s the worst that could happen? (Besides my legs falling asleep during meditation — which happened. A lot.)

The first week was rough, ngl. My monkey mind was more like King Kong on energy drinks. Every time I tried to meditate, my brain would helpfully remind me of that embarrassing thing I did in third grade. You know, when I called my teacher “mom” in front of everyone? Yeah, thanks brain.

But something weird started happening around day 8.

The voices in my head (the normal kind, I promise) started getting quieter like someone…
