The Swan being one of my earlier attempts with watercolours as my medium of choice back in the day.

When I progressed from watercolour pencils and charcoal, plus wash & ink techniques, I quickly found I could achieve useful looking results with a simple range of watercolour tubes and pans, together with very cheap unsophisticated brushes.

For some reason, dabbling with watercolours just seemed a natural progression for me. Possibly originating from the world of colour that I’d successfully negotiated during my career within the print world?

When I joined my art group, many present maintained that with watercolours perhaps I’d chosen the hardest of all the mediums to try to master?

Not that I’ve mastered them, or anything like, but for me, as I say, it’s a world that I fortunately got to grips with early on. There’s plenty to learn, which I always take as a challenge. Nowadays I go back to this art form, just for variety and indeed that subtleness that I’ve hinted at.

Retired, but soon became overtaken just like the rest of the world by the pandemic. Decided to keep a record of events in the UK.
