My use of Acrylics
A Surprising Experience
The very first time I used Acrylics in combat, so to speak, was my take of an Edward Hopper Painting.
The famous American artist managed to complete his Lighthouse scene in so much more of an accomplished fashion, but seeing as it was my first dabble into the ‘mysterious’ world of acrylics, I was quite pleased with the overall effect.
Up to this point they had indeed been mysterious to me, in that for some reason I always shunned any opportunity to use them.
Being steeped in my use of watercolours, pastels and charcoal, etc, some of my art group colleagues always maintained I would find them relatively easy to use.
As I say, for some reason I always shunned the very thought!
*Until, that is, I attended a demonstration by a really accomplished artist who came along armed with a canvas and yes, his array of acrylic paints.
He had a number of seascape paintings on display around the room as well for full measure. They were stunning and so too the one he soon brought to life before us, explaining things as he went along.
Fantastic vivid and intense colours and just what I’d been looking for, but somehow neglected to try.
