Simple Ways to Prioritize Your Spiritual Growth in a Busy Schedule

--

This topic came up in a discussion with a colleague.

They shared how prioritizing their spiritual life was essential for balancing their hectic schedule and how they made the tough decision to leave a high-stress job only to regain that balance.

Picture this

Imagine leaving your job and staying out of a job for months so you can maintain your spiritual routine.

This colleague said due to the nature of their previous job, finding time to pray and even attend services became difficult if not impossible.

They observed gradually how their spiritual life dwindled. Until, with the stamp of a foot, they decided, “Enough!”

One morning, they tendered their resignation letter without the hope of anyone in sight and remained jobless for three months.

The icing on the story was they got a better one that paid double the previous one.

Talk about a blessing in disguise.

Here’s the deal

Have you ever felt like the demands of a fast-paced life are pulling you away from your spiritual center?

You’re not alone.

I was inspired to write this post after reading an article that shared practical tips on keeping your spiritual fire alive in the hustle and bustle of life.

It resonated deeply, especially since I recently watched the movie , which highlights the battles of maintaining a spiritually grounded life despite overwhelming odds.

So, how can you stay spiritually grounded despite the constant busyness of life?

Here are a few tips that have worked for me and others like my colleague:

1. Start Your Day with Spiritual Practices

Whether it’s prayer, meditation, or studying the bible, make it the first thing you do in the morning. It sets a positive tone for the day.

I ensure I read a few verses of Psalms before stepping out.

God’s word in your mouth has tremendous power.

My favourites are Psalms 1,2,3,21,51,91 amongst others.

2. Seek Small Moments to Pray During the Day

Your break time or commute can double as moments for connection. Evenings can also be great for reflecting and unwinding spiritually.

Once I step into the house in the evenings, I have my alarm set for 6.pm Prayers. It’s peaceful because I’ve completed the work for the day and now have time for myself and God.

I also seize my break periods to pray, and sometimes, during my strolls to the junction, I seize the moment to pray.

I learned this from listening to my most-liked gospel preachers like Pastor. Mildred and Pastor Eno.

They always teach that you can seize free periods during your day to stay connected to God.

Like, the bible would advise,

3. Find Accountability Partners

Having someone to encourage and remind you to stay on track can make all the difference.

It could be a friend, a spiritual mentor, or a group that shares your values.

For me, I joined some Christian communities that helped me. Amongst them is a Tribe of marketplace ministers piloted by amiable ministers of God like Minister Damola and Emi Adelakun. You can check them out here —

Then — A Christian community to help you break old molds and thinking patterns and embrace your identity in Christ.

4. Make Use of Holidays and Weekends

Plan spiritual retreats or quiet moments of reflection to recharge and refocus on what truly matters.

I usually crave quiet moments where I can get lost in God’s presence. I often feel energized and get lots of creative ideas and energy when I engage in such extended quiet moments alone with God.

I believe we should have such retreats often to recharge spiritually.

5. Incorporate Spiritual Practices Into Your Work Routine

Play worship songs, listen to sermons, or tune into motivational podcasts as you work.

These small actions can help you stay grounded all day long.

While I work, I ensure gospel music or sermons are playing in the background.

My Favoured are the teachings of Apostle Joshua Selman and Pastor Jerry Eze. For gospel songs, I go for Mercy Chinwo vs Ada Ehi songs.

Your Turn Now!

Do you have other ideas on how to stay spiritually grounded in a busy world?

I’d love to hear them! Please share your thoughts in the comments, and let’s learn from each other.
