Abstract

Your child is being boisterous, overly excited, following you around mischievously. It’s that crazy hour of the day right before bedtime.

Everybody’s tired, and even though your child doesn’t look like it, they are. The pressure builds up…

Until you cast your eyes over the kitchen sink overflowing with pots and pans.

Are you feeling overwhelmed now?

You’ll soon learn to be delighted at this sight.

Here’s the deal

Instead of trying to sit down to read a book or attempt to do anything your child will distract you from anyway, just plunge your hands under warm water and have yourself a mini spa session!

Give it 10, 20 seconds.

Has the atmosphere suddenly evened itself out to one of utter relaxation?

This is what works for us, and I’d say it could well work for you, too.

  • Being around water has that calming effect.
  • Your child knows you’re off bounds for just a few moments.

By the time you’re done with the dishes, the mood will have adjusted to the actual vibes of a night-time routine proper.

Can you see how much I managed to write? That’s after drying my hands and coming back to a contented young child reading a book.
