The Wonder of Spring Flowers

Each spring, I am confused and astonished by the beauty of the early spring flowers. They are such a remarkable contrast to the bleakness of winter.

Is it really possible, you wonder, that from cold hard ground, these tender green shoots push up and then suddenly, a burst of color?

I was so excited that I started running around, photographing them. With each new flower, my spirits were raised even higher. It was nature at its therapeutic best.

Another thing I’ve noticed in the last couple weeks is a tinge of yellow-green in the new growth twigs of the gnarled willow tree, and in the hedge of forsythia along the back mountain road.

And a few days ago, outside my window, I discovered a small patch of crocuses, their blossoms fully open. But when the sun went down that evening…
