A story written for the Canadian Jewish Heritage Month (May 2025) about Israeli-influenced architecture worldwide
What do the in Ottawa, the in Singapore, and the in Montreal all have in common?
On the surface, they may all look very different (see the picture below). Yet, they were all designed by the renowned Israeli-Canadian-American architect, Moshe Safdie. He is also my favourite architect and one of the most renowned architects in Canada, and that’s why I’m writing this article.
May is in Canada. As an Israeli-Canadian living in Montreal, QC, Canada, who’s also an architecture aficionado (I work in digital design and I like architecture photography as well), it is my pleasure to tell you a little bit more about Moshe Safdie. We both originate from Israel, and he started his professional life in the same city where I live these days. Needless to say that he left a big mark here in Montreal as well as in many other places around the world.
