I’m not someone who happens to have ADHD. I’m a whole ADHD brain, operating on a different plane than those around me. It was coming to that realization that completely transformed the way I lived my life.
For a long time, after getting diagnosed at the beginning of college, I thought that my ADHD just played a little role in my life. It was after a lot of coming to Jesus moments, talking to friends with ADHD, and reading great books about my condition that showed me who I really was.
I’m an ADHD brain — and I’m proud of it.
That major difference in my cognition and my life, though, means I have to play by different rules to survive and thrive in a world that wasn’t built for me or people like me. In the several years I’ve been trying to engineer my life with ADHD, here are the rules I’ve come up with, experimented with, and discovered along my journey.
