The Façade Hasn’t Changed… the Functional Aspects Have
La Gallia, a historic edifice in Strasbourg, has seamlessly transitioned into a multipurpose student establishment
Buildings that stand on the side of a river have a strategic advantage. There is no way locals walking along the river, or for that matter taking a boat ride, are going to miss them. The same aspect helps grab a visitor’s attention as well.
In fact, being along the riverside becomes their most symbolic point of reference. Buildings that are in the vicinity of a city’s other famous landmarks palpably benefit from this proximity as well. The convenient placement ensures they cannot be missed.
Strasbourg’s La Gallia scores on both counts and is most certainly a prestigious real estate investment, no doubt. However, there is something specific about this 19th-century structure that makes sure the visitors do not overlook it.
La Gallia’s majestic façade makes you stare in awe and marvel at the impressive architecture of this functional building. I knew little about it beforehand, but a cursory look while taking a stroll made me curious about its cultural and historical importance.
