My Daughter’s Airplane

An extension course

My daughter met her future husband through a mutual friend in cyber school. She attended high school via the internet. Little did we realize that one of the courses was finding a mate. He lived several hours away, so there was little chance that the budding romance would ever blossom.

However, the fellow was intrigued enough to make the drive and take our daughter out to dinner.

We asked a lot of questions, and when we were satisfied, we gave our permission. It was just one date, and he, Chris, still lived two and a half hours away.

Chris was an impressive young man, polite and well spoken. He had taken a few college courses but wasn’t sure that was the path he wanted to take. His real love was flying. He was ranked in the top 10 in the world in drone flying competitions. This was 15 years ago, and we thought of drones as a cute hobby, right up there with gluing together model cars and playing video games.

The date went well for all concerned, he had her home at a decent hour. Next thing we know, we’re driving the distance to meet his parents, and he takes us out to dinner. It was a nice evening, but if anything, it highlighted the distance, literally, between them.
