All-Rounder at Home and Work: How I Balance Life with Grace”

This is me, a mum of five boys, a housewife, a teacher aide at a special school, a cleaner, a cook, a driver (who picks and drops kids to and from school), a laundry woman, the one who does all the grocery shopping (I don’t know if there’s a specific job title for that!), an event organizer, a tutor, you name it…….

Managing so many roles is sometimes really tiring and frustrating, but if you handle these tasks wisely, your time becomes much more productive. I’m not going to share my exact schedule, but I’ll tell you how I keep everyone happy around me — including myself, because I believe I’m the most important person in my life.

I wake up in the dark for prayers, as I am a pious and religious person. The first thing I aim to do each day is to make God happy, more than anyone else. After my prayers, I head straight to the kitchen to prepare breakfast and make seven lunchboxes for the whole family. Within an hour and a half, both breakfast and lunch are done. My eldest, who is 15 years old, makes his own breakfast.

I believe kids must learn basic cooking, even if they make a mess. They will learn, eventually, how to cook and clean up after themselves.

All my children dress themselves, even my 6-year-old. I taught them to dress independently from the age of 3. When potty training, I encouraged them to wear…
