DMV moment of truth while planning an international move
My driver’s license was soon to expire.
There I stood in December at the Department of Motor Vehicles facing a moment of an existential truth. Do I check the M box or the F box or the X box?
I live in a blue state that is protective of trans rights, but whose governor hasn’t made any pronouncements responding to Trump’s confused, overreaching (EO) on January 20. But she commented on his similarly appalling stance on birthright citizenship. His first day as dictator (his campaign word) wasted no time reversing discrimination protections made by the Biden administration.
The new anti-trans EO doesn’t even mention the possibility of someone being non-binary: how I identify. It’s either/or in the land of Trump.
I’ve been fed up with being an American since long before the November election. In the past decade I seriously thought about moving to four countries. The latest nation I’ve targeted as a potential new home is LGBTQ+ friendly. There’s an excellent chance of me being able to move by this fall, although some immigration matters still need to be worked out.
