Lesbian and Bisexual Are Not the Same. Here’s Why That Matters.
When inclusivity begets erasure, is it time to pull the plug?
Inclusivity.
Buzzword extraordinaire of recent years, particularly in the LGBTQ+ community.
It’s often seen as the ultimate virtue — a guiding principle that ensures everyone gets a seat at the table and nobody feels left out.
But can we take it too far? Is there such a thing as being overly accommodating when it comes to identity politics?
Many people believe so.
Where some find labels restricting, prohibitive, and harmful, others consider them barometers of safety and similarity among the ranks — indicators necessary for common understanding.
The tension generated by these opposing beliefs often leads to division and discontentment within communities.
A frustrated feeling of: “we can’t have anything, anymore!”
One group particularly affected by this growing social epidemic are those who find themselves at the very bottom of the heteronormative patriarchal hierarchy.
Yep, you guessed it.
The lesbians.
