The 3 Subtle Differences Between a Good Writer and a Great One
How to go from novice to master
Digital writing and classical writing are not the same.
Writers of old would sit locked away in their mahogany offices, wearing out the nibs on their fountain pens and bellowing on rich tobacco.
These were the legacy writers. The Hemingways of old.
You are born in a different era. Cut from a different cloth. Your keyboard is your fountain pen, and your caffeine is your pipe. And whilst there’s a lot you can learn from the old ways, there’s also a lot you need to forget.
Three subtle differences
The way I see it, there are three stages of digital writing:
- The novice.
- The apprentice.
- The master.
Each stage represents a different point along your writing journey.
We’re all novices at the start. You think that your ideas are great, and while some are, you get trapped in novice ways of thinking.
The apprentice, however, has some steam behind them. They share valuable ideas, and their writing gets traction, but they never quite reach their full potential.
