red carnations over the Portuguese flag red and green.

Once upon a new dawn merry
while I yelled loud and cheery
stepping out from the darkness
a radio starts singing suddenly
Grândola motherland of liberty

On this day in April’s blossom
after the everlasting goodbye
to silence the end of sadness
I feel you in a carnation bloom
the freedom only April brings

You came as a crimson flower
I plucked the petals from you
but to love is to win if we lose
there’s no way back from love
on that day to leave was to die

The Willow Tree mounts a Jeep
we follow behind on a Chaimite
as we ride through the darkness
fascism’s grip has begun to fade
a single lane on the road ahead

The raven cawed and away it flew
as liberty’s light pierced the shade
April’s end brings something new
a whisper stirs dispelling shadows
there’s a new light beyond horizon
