When ideas disappear

I’ve been busy. So busy that I have neglected not only my own writing here on Medium, but also my duties as an editor for Bouncin and Behavin Poems, Brigid’s Arrow, and Petits Fours.

This afternoon, I had a quiet moment after the students left for the day. In that moment, the thought rushed to me: I didn’t recall when I had last checked in on Medium.

This evening, I finished a project for work and then signed in here. I found that

has been picking up my slack at BBP (if not him, someone has been). I can’t even express how thankful I am for that. I am extremely busy — busier than I have been for a very, very long time — and that’s saying a lot, because I can’t think of a time when I haven’t been busy.

I even found a story by Sarah Elizabeth waiting to be published on Brigid’s Arrow. I’m so, so sorry the Sarah had to wait many days for me to come around.

Once I checked in on my notifications and the submissions, I went to my own stories — and found this. What was “this,” you ask?

Well, “this” was an empty story. I had opened it once, weeks ago, with something in mind. What that idea was, though, is a mystery. I’m sure there was some spark of inspiration, which fizzled out as…
