Person on the Page is a publication focused primarily on offering readers excellent writing on a variety of personal topics. I am looking for strongly voiced, highly polished writing — regardless of genre — that is based on the writer’s personal experience. Appropriate kinds of work include, but are not limited to

· Narratives of deeply personal experiences in the form of memoirs, personal essays, or confessional prose. Accounts of traumatic or highly emotional experiences — events that most people shy away from telling others — are acceptable. (Avoid graphic detail — keep the reader’s sensitivities in mind.)

· Articles that share knowledge that the writer has gained from experience. Writers are invited to share expertise gained from their careers or their lives beyond work, as long as the article has a strong first-person voice and refers to events in the writer’s life. These could include instructional (“ how-to”) articles or literary journalistic pieces.

· Essays about insights that the writer has gained from experience. Philosophical work or accounts of how the writer overcame obstacles or learned valuable lessons are welcome.

· Essays on writing, particularly writing about the personal. Writing tips, writing instruction, and considerations of the complications of sharing personal subjects with readers are appropriate.

Guidelines for Writers

1. Read and follow the Medium Rules.

2. Follow Medium’s instructions for Using the Story Editor.

3. Write a title for your article that accurately represents the content and that is meant to inspire interest or curiosity in the reader. Format the title using the large “T” icon.

4. Write a subtitle that is meant to increase interest in the article. Format the subtitle using the small “t” icon.

5. Provide a cover image that is eye-catching and that relates to the subject of your article. Try to choose an image that is notably different from ones commonly seen on Medium.

6. Write in short paragraphs that can be read easily on a cell phone.

7. If you use headers, format them using the small “t” icon.

8. Think and re-think, write and re-write until you have produced your very best work.

9. Use an app such as Grammarly to help you eliminate spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors. Do not use the Grammarly AI-generated editor to enhance your work. (And, of course, do not use AI to generate or revise your article.)

10. Before submitting to Person on the Page, take one last long look at your work. Think about your reader. Have you made your message as clear, interesting, and relevant to your audience as possible?
