You may not say these words often, but you have likely felt them at some point. We often feel disappointment in our relationships when we have too many expectations.

But is there a way to keep expectations minimal to avoid dismay?

I’ve been told many times to keep my expectations in check, or else I’ll be the one left hurt in the end.

So, to safeguard my well-being, I follow this simple checklist:

  • Remember, no one is perfect
  • Put yourself in their shoes
  • Not everything should be taken personally
  • Don’t control the relationship/narrative
  • Invest wisely or don’t over-invest
  • Know when to end
