The Mirage of Happiness: A Journey into Simplicity
What if the complexity we perceive in life is merely a veil we’ve woven ourselves? What if happiness isn’t a distant shore we’re struggling to reach but the water we’re swimming in?
The Dance of Complexity
Two years ago, I found myself where many of us do — caught in the intricate dance of seeking happiness through achievement, spiritual practices, and self-improvement. Like a traveller in a desert, I chased mirages of fulfilment, convinced that the next oasis would finally quench my thirst.
Then came the recession and, with it, the loss of my job. Hundreds of resumes were sent into the void, met with silence. There I was, armed with spiritual practices, positive thinking, and a library of self-help wisdom, yet feeling utterly lost. Outwardly serene, I inwardly cried out to understand why my good karma hadn’t protected me from this storm.
The Whispers of Simplicity
In the depths of that struggle, something unexpected emerged. During one meditation session, time seemed to dissolve — 15 minutes stretched into an hour and a half. In that expansive silence, a truth so simple it had been hiding in plain sight revealed itself: complexity isn’t inherent in our experiences; we are the authors of our complications.
