I Love Hearing my Roommate Shower in the Morning
I promise it’s not weird!
It’s 9 am, and I’m in bed. I usually don’t have classes in the morning, so I like to sleep in. But every so often, it’s not my late alarm that wakes me.
My eyes fight the sleep and slowly open. I hear noise from outside my room. My roommate is going through his morning routine before leaving for campus. A heavy jet of water hits the acrylic base of the shower. But that noise is drowned out by something else. On this particular morning, it’s the gentle bass and drums accompanied by the calm vocals of Steven Patrick Morrissey.
Waking up to The Smiths is better than waking up to any of the dozens of iPhone ringtones.
I’m blessed to have a roommate with a taste in music very similar to mine. Except he is a lot more musically involved than I am and listens to a lot more of it. This is great for me because it guarantees that I will love whatever he blasts through his speaker (loud enough for me to Shazam it from the comfort of my bed), and quite often, it’s entirely new music for me.
So, several times a week, I get woken up by a colorful medley of rich soul, nostalgic indie pop-rock, groovy and funky R&B tunes, and upbeat rap, among others.
