Bishop Mariann Budde’s remarks at the Inaugural Prayer Breakfast sparked considerable attention — some praising her, others criticizing. drew more attention than I had imagined, with both agreement and backlash.

I knew I was stepping into hot waters and admittedly used stark language regarding the Bishop and her beliefs. Some appreciated my thoughts, while others responded with very heated comments and accusations. I realize my rhetoric may have contributed to the intensity of these reactions. And the complete disdain quite a few feel for Trump may have spilled over onto me even though my article was not about Trump or defense of him. You will not find much political commentary on my social media, and I do not own a MAGA hat or bumper sticker. I will speak about some cultural narratives and trends, and you might discern that my political views lean conservative, but I do seek to keep the Kingdom above politics.
