The ‘Good Neighbor’

I had another run-in with one of my neighbors

She is a very elderly widow who lives alone next door.

I rarely see anyone visit with her but, as I tend to mind my own business most of the time, I may just not see any “visitors” in her driveway, and after today, I will see even fewer.

She had this conversation with my wife a while back, and as I have been the sole caretaker of our puppy for the last two weeks, I had forgotten about it. I like to walk my little puppy around my backyard as much as he wants, and, being a puppy, he likes to also sniff around the neighbor’s yard a little. Our houses are pretty close to each other on one side.

I have never let him pee in her yard once that I know of, but who is keeping track? Such a trivial thing, given everything else going on in the world.

Today, as I was out walking the puppy in my usual manner, she stepped out to tell me that she wants to be a “good neighbor” but to not let my little 5-pound puppy pee in her yard as it attracts the other neighborhood dogs to do the same.

I wasn’t the only person out walking a dog.
