That Time I Dated a Guy in Prison

Why do good girls like bad boys?

When we’re young we do stupid things; at least I did. One of those stupid things was the time I got engaged to a convict.

In high school, my friends and I were good girls who got good grades, but dated the bad boys from the wrong side of the tracks. It’s a classic tale. We see it in the movies (Grease, Saturday Night Fever, Bad Boys with Sean Penn) and read about it in books (The Outsiders) all the time, so don’t judge me!

He was a bad boy from the bad part of town.

I met Justin at a teen dance club. He lived in the bad part of town and he was in a gang, supposedly. He had short sandy brown hair, blue eyes and a baby face.

He wore a Member’s Only jacket, jeans and sunglasses at night just like the Corey Hart song. He smoked and liked to laugh and cuss a lot. The first time I went to his house, he moved fast. He tried to go all the way with me, but I didn’t want to, so we just made out.

He and his obnoxious friend visited me at my parent’s house one day and my dad expressed…
