Is There Still A Place Here for Serious Writers?

I’m here for the good stuff

I fell in love with Medium for its thought-provoking pieces.

Almost every day since I decided to go all in here around March of 2022, I’ve published something — I’m up to nearly 500 pieces in all now! I doubt there’s been a single day since then that I have not read, clapped for and commented on multiple pieces. I have loved this platform.

So I was initially pretty excited when Medium started talking about giving more attention (and financial rewards) to high-quality writing. I’ve been a professional writer of one sort or another for 30 years, and I have won stacks of awards. I’m not an arrogant person, but I know I write well.

But so far, this new algorithm has been a disaster for so many of what I consider Medium’s best writers that I realize Medium just might not be the right place for serious writers now.

Algorithms come and algorithms go.

I wasn’t too concerned at first. There are always bugs that have to be worked out.

I have to admit that I was taken aback on Medium Day when Tony Stubblebine said Medium and Substack aren’t competitors and drew a distinction by saying Substack loves creators.
