The background story of why I decided to open an art gallery
In 2007, I visited my dad at his home on Lamma Island (Hong Kong) and reconnected with him; I hadn’t seen him for over a decade. We were never close, and we have had a few random correspondences in the past. During that visit, I discovered his Tao paintings and was surprised to know that he was rather well-known in Hong Kong in the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s. There were articles and interviews about him: one was a two-page article written by someone from the famous Champagne Dom Perignon praising his artworks in the prestigious Tatler Magazine in 2000.
The previous Hong Kong Hotel in T.S.T. had one or two of his painting prints in every guest room, and six original paintings were in their lobby. In addition, the famous Abbot of the Emerald Buddha Temple in Shanghai wrote a scroll for him, saying that his art was innovative, had not been seen in the past, and would not be seen in the future.
