Sometime around 2010, I sat at my newsroom desk and read a quote that went something like this:

“Wait until people who hate the news media see what’s going to replace it.”

It’s OK to hate reporters

You’ve probably seen the infamous that says “Rope. Tree. Journalist. Some Assembly Required.” It’s OK, though — the wearers are only advocating the murder of journalists, not good people.

As everybody knows, journalists are terrible people who feed on the tragedies of others for money. They are a flock of vultures who will do anything to sell papers.

I found it irritating to hear such insults while eating a lunch of peanut butter sandwiches or leftovers at my desk.

The dichotomy between journalists and media owners

If you own a major media outlet or are a top executive at one, you are rich. If you work as a journalist — unless you are part of a very tiny minority of celebrity talking heads — you probably make working class wages.
