Fast Food is Slowing Down

Would the end of fast food really be such a bad thing?

Some people are terribly upset about fast food workers finally being paid halfway reasonable wages.

“They’re paying them what? That’s what I’m making!”

The person then mentions what kind of job they have and what kind of degree or training they have. It’s clear that they believe their work is much more important to society than the humble burger flipper’s job.

It’s a curious thing.

It’s as if people want fast food workers to suffer; as if they think those workers deserve poor pay and treatment.

It almost sounds like … class hatred.

People who work in fast food are assumed to be at the lowest of the pecking order, and no matter how much your job sucks, you have always had the luxury of telling yourself, “Well, at least I’m not working in fast food.”

I worked in fast food as a student. My children both worked in fast food when they were younger.

A lot of us did.

Yet, for all that a huge percentage of us have first-hand knowledge of working in fast food, we act as if we know nothing about it. It’s similar to how “everyone” knows…
