April Writing Prompt: Smell It
The Smell of Life
I live and die by it.
All smells turn me on, and my sense of smell has always been super sensitive. I could smell you a mile away. It is not just the aroma of food, perfume, or foul odors. I smell emotions, behaviours, and Nature’s ever-changing panorama. Everything around me ignites my highly tuned sense of smell.
The most fun was figuring out the perfumes people, both men and women, wore as they passed me. Men mostly had that musky smell, but women went from a variety of floral to spicy and sometimes earthy. Some of those were irresistible and wanted me to run up to them, but the person might not always be consistent with the scent.
Unfortunately, despite my common sense warning me not to. I did follow that smell of irresistible attraction. I remember that evening I was at a dinner with family. I was enjoying a conversation with my cousin, whom I had not seen in a while. Suddenly, a whiff of the most insane scent passed my nostrils, and by the time I looked up, I had missed the person wearing it. I decided to follow the smell and see who it belonged to. Making an excuse to go to the bathroom, I rushed to follow the direction of the scent. I walked past a group, but nothing.
