The Palgrave Handbook of Energy Transition and Renewable Energy invites researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and industry experts to contribute chapters exploring the dynamics, challenges, and opportunities of transitioning to a sustainable energy future.

Edited by Robert C. Brears and Dr. Maria Kottari, this comprehensive Handbook will provide a multidisciplinary examination of energy transition pathways, renewable energy technologies, policy frameworks, and financial mechanisms driving global decarbonization efforts. Chapters will offer insights into cutting-edge research, innovative solutions, and real-world applications supporting a low-carbon, resilient energy future.

Scope and Objectives

The Handbook will comprehensively explore:

  • Energy Policy and Governance: Carbon pricing, emissions trading, regulatory barriers, and international agreements.
  • Renewable Energy Technologies: Solar, wind, bioenergy, hydropower, and emerging innovations.
  • Sectoral Transitions: Decarbonization of power generation, transportation, industrial processes, and heating/cooling.
  • Energy Efficiency: Building retrofits, industrial energy optimization, and smart grid solutions.
  • Socio-Economic Dimensions: Job creation, energy poverty, environmental justice, and community energy projects.
  • Financing the Transition: Green finance, carbon markets, energy pricing, and investment mechanisms.

Submission Details

  • Chapter Length: 10,000 words (minimum)
  • Rolling Submissions: Chapters will be accepted and published continuously until the final deadline.
  • Final Submission Deadline: June 2026
