I Thought Consistency Was the Key to Fluency. I Was Wrong.
How I kept a 100+ day Spanish streak, broke it on my birthday, and finally realized what matters most in language learning.
For months, I was proudly keeping up a Spanish streak on Lingolia. Just 10–15 minutes a day. Every. Single. Day.
My goal was to complete 365 days.
It felt like I was winning.
I’d open the app, complete a few easy grammar drills — fill-in-the-blank or matching style — tick off the day, and go on with my life.
Some days I was tired, overwhelmed, or didn’t feel like doing it. But I still did. On those days, I took an easy path and did the exercises below my level. Just to do it fast and let go.
For reference, I am currently at the C1 level and preparing for the DELE C2 exam. Yet, I was doing B1 exercises, thinking that I wouldn’t hurt to revise a few things.
I didn’t bother learning new and challenging rules to push myself further. I was happy with 100 % correct results.
I did a good job, I convinced my brain. Right?
Wrong!
