KTHT Advent Calendar Prompts: Day 12 đ
Scroll to unlock todayâs reflective prompt
A diminishing supply of my momâs last-ever Christmas cookies is stored in my freezer. They are the last of a tradition that lasted my entire life and I am sure even before that. My mom would bake hundreds of cookies. There would be more than ten different kinds. Tins of cookies would be handed out to various relatives. If you happened to show up at our house and there wasnât a present under the tree for you, you would go home with a gift of cookies. Food is an integral part of holiday celebrations throughout the world. One of the great parts of traveling to friends during holidays is to sample these treasures that are often served only at that time of the year.
đPROMPT 12: Share special foods that take center stage in your family or culture during holiday seasons.
Christmas Eve had us eating pizza and buffalo wings, the tradition decades long. Christmas dinner was a buffet with roast turkey and roast beef sandwiches. There were lots of salads, chips, munchies, and the above mentioned cookies. A fruitcake that was very tasty would be cut or sometimes hidden so it wouldnât be shared. My mom who rarely drank would have me make her a drink of Woodford Reserve bourbon and ginger ale. These things will always remind me of Christmas.
We are looking forward to reading everyoneâs submissions!
Much love from me and the other editors of KTHT
