Homemade Hummus
A recipe
Picture this: you are in the mood for a snack. You pull out some pita bread chips and some sour cream. However, you have noticed that lately, sour cream doesn’t seem to agree much with your stomach, so you want to try something different.
Or maybe, just maybe, you are in the mood for something creamy and tangy.
Whatever the case might be, hummus is a delicious healthy option that will really satisfy your needs.
Ingredients:
1 cup dry chickpeas
1/4 cup tahini
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 lemon / lime
1 garlic clove, finely chopped
Salt and pepper to taste
Preparation:
- Soak the chickpeas in water overnight. Drain, rinse and transfer them to a slow cooker. Then, add 3 cups of water and cook them for about 3 hours. Makes sure to add salt and pepper to taste. As a personal note, I like to add some turmeric and ginger sometimes.
- Once the chickpeas are done, let them cool down for about an hour. After that, drain them, and place them in a bowl. I suggest you keep the cooking water. It tastes great! Plus, you can add a bit to the hummus to make it more creamy.
