I dreamed of your smooth white skin
you were très distingué, and you were there with me
you were a writer and, oh, so dedicated to your craft
I was a rat looking for a job in my hometown
you gave me a vivid description of everything
a cat on the porch and squawking geese,
roaming the sky for fun
and the little milkman fed on dreams
we wandered early morning streets
I was Holly Golightly, and you, my man;
this time my evil tongue didn’t come out
just memories from the town I grew up in
and I dreamed that one day I would find a man like you
who won’t care if I’m fat or blue,
if my ugliness explodes at the prospect of being caught
by the camera eye, la présence
thank goodness I’m none of those things
très fou, maybe a little, but not dumb
I know how to go about
the entire array of things that boggle the brain,
except for the one I miss the most–
my American boy in the lattice’s shade and shorts

Thank you for reading!
