Closed doors are detours, not dead ends.
I grew up in India, where bad things that happen in a woman’s life are chalked up to fate. She is counseled to accept it, instead of fighting for a way out of it.
If the father is mean, the daughter is told to love him and accept the father fate has given her without complaint. If the husband is abusive, the wife is asked to sacrifice her self-worth for the good of the marriage. If the family is toxic, the girl is asked to adjust her expectations of being treated with dignity and respect because this family is her fate.
Early in life, I took a stance against accepting the closed doors without pushing against them. I knew I was destined for a life different than accepting abuse as my fate. From there, my life’s work was born. My passion in life is helping women find the exit doors in their lives, and get unstuck by adopting a changed mindset.
The feeling of being stuck reminds me of closed doors. Once, on a solo trip to Slovenia, I went down a narrow stone passage only to be faced with a closed…
