Auditioning Thoughts

I like to think of my thoughts as actors on a stage, each trying to grab my attention.

Picture an old theater, dimly lit, with a single spotlight on the stage. The curtains open, and one by one, my thoughts step forward from the shadows, each trying to grab my attention and tell its story.

What if I viewed these thoughts not as absolute truths but as ideas auditioning for a role in my life?

This perspective has helped how I engage with my inner dialogue, allowing me to see my thoughts as brief, mere actors awaiting my direction rather than dictators of my reality.

Understanding My Thoughts

Every day, I find myself in the audience of this mental theater, watching a diverse cast of thoughts parade across the stage. Some are confident, striding forward with powerful, positive messages, while others creep in the shadows, whispering words of doubt and insecurity.

It’s easy to catch myself thinking, “I’m not good enough,” or “I can’t do this,” as if these lines were scripted and immutable. lately, I’ve begun to pause, taking a moment to step out of the audience and into the director’s chair.
