A Mondaellese Story

A story of a family in Mondaella, a small country carrying their big dreams.

When Qaezzi lost Edzia, 20 years ago, their son, Effizzio, was only 7 years old. Qaezzi’s life had been like a plane flying in one direction, and at that turning point, the plane swiveled in place for what felt like eternity, until it finally took an entirely opposite direction.

20 years later, Effizzio was practicing the violin in his room, picturing the crowd at the sea-side Opera House, where his orchestra, the Mondaellese Philharmonic Orchestra, would be playing in a week’s time. He closed his eyes and started poking at the silence of the room with melodies soft and sweet. They reminded him of Cianne; the music he was playing was the embodiment of Cianne, in fact. It was her face, so vibrant with a soft touch of blush, her hands, as smooth as butter left under the sun to simmer. As the rhythm grew faster and steadied, he went back on the motorboat ride they took together from the west coast of Mondaella to its western neighbor, Italy. The notes were as playful and dynamic as the laughs they had as they nibbled on gelato’s and escaped the tourist group to stay in Italy for the night.
