Why Older Adults Thrive with Pod Squads
Over the past year, I formed a three-person group, consisting of two men and a woman, which continues to meet on a bi-monthly basis. We came together after working as a team providing low-cost lunches at a senior center.
We are all past retirement age and talk about anything that comes up: local news, travel plans, views regarding issues of the day, personal stories, activities, and achievements.
I recently came across an article in a that advocates for more social engagement for elders.
“Older adults should consider postponing full retirement as long as possible and continue to work and be mentally active and engaged,” says Cho. “Many people look forward to retirement only to find that they have nowhere to be and nothing to do.” If you do retire, consider engaging in other meaningful activities, such as spending quality time with family or pursuing hobbies.”
Growing older doesn’t mean growing less social; I am finding that I yearn for a richer social life in my later years.
