My Husband Was Caught Speeding — I Did the Speed Awareness Course
For better or for worse…
You might be thinking I took the blame — no chance! “He who did the crime must do the time.” Well, in this case, we both did.
The training was online over Zoom. I sat on the course with him as he’s not proficient in English. He knows enough to get by but sometimes makes catastrophic errors with his word choices.
Firstly, it’s nothing radical: he was caught driving 24 on a 20 mph road. He insisted that I disclose this at the beginning of the session so others don’t form a bad impression of him. I told him every participant was guilty of this!
I had to step in to avoid an epic car crash
Question by instructor: How would you feel if you caused a minor accident?
My husband’s response to me in Bengali: “I would be devastated and annoyed with myself.”
Out of curiosity I asked how he would say it in English, and he looked quizzical: “Excited…” I put my hand on his knees to stop him there; luckily we were muted. See why I had to step in to avoid an epic car crash? I can’t have him too excited on this sombre course.
