My Faith is Fragile in Male Hands
Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Hindu — all organized religions treat women like trash
I’ve been what one might call an omnist — sort of like a polyglot of religions. I know the conventions, read the books, and have learned from the followers. And, as followers of anything tend to do, they have put me off religion completely.
I was born to a Sikh man and a Hindu woman in a Muslim country. On Fridays — Jumma — I would wish my Muslim friends Jumma Mubarak: happy Friday, as they went to the mosque. I lived in a predominantly Catholic building, so I visited the Temple on Saturdays, went to Church on Sundays, and then the Gurudwara later that day. I also had some Jewish influence, but have only visited the synagogue a few times, and on the sidelines.
Naturally, I have learned about the religions I was surrounded by, and, by the book, I only took offense to religion a handful of times. But, in practice? I think religion is a refuge for the egos of the morally dubious.
Is it illegal today to harass based on sexuality? Yes. But if my God says you’re an abomination, then that’s how I’ll treat you! Policing me is policing an omniscient deity.
You dare to criticize my religion?? Who’s the bigot, now?
