There are some dogs that love to fetch and others that bark at every squirrel. And then there’s Griffin — my 65-pound Labrador retriever. He has an inexplicable obsession with sleeping directly on top of me. Not next to me, not at my feet, but right on my chest, like a furry, breathing blanket.
The behavior began subtly enough. Griffin was still a puppy—a little brown ball of fluff who wanted constant affection. Like any new dog owner, I was thrilled by the cuddles (who wouldn’t be?)
I found it endearing the first time he curled up on my chest when I got horizontal. But what started as a cute habit quickly became my nightly dilemma. Every night, without fail, this hairball would “flop” onto my body and refuse to move.
I wouldn’t blame you for thinking it’s charming — after all, who doesn’t love the feel of a snuggly pup? But I can tell you, it became a real problem.
