First, Let’s Define Families
First off, we want to know what we’re comparing. In this case, it’s household or family net worth.
How are families/households defined here?
, there were 131.3 million families or households in the US as of the most recent survey (2022), which the Fed defined: “… a household unit is divided into a primary economic unit (PEU) — the family — and everyone else in the household. The PEU is intended to be the economically dominant single person or couple (whether married or living together as partners) and all other persons in the household who are financially interdependent with that economically dominant person or couple.”
