When I began this publication, the idea was for it to be a literary journal of the lives of writers, without resorting to it being about how to write. What always bothered me about writing magazines is that they were all about the business of writing, or more accurately about the business of publishing, and most of it was pure nonsense intended to fleece gullible beginners out of their hard earned cash.
I used to subscribe to this surfing magazine called Surfer’s Journal. Unlike all the other surfing magazines, it was without hype. There were no instructions on how to do a 360º, or what wetsuit this or that pro favored. They were real stories about the lives of real surfers, many of them not famous. It was about the lifestyle, not the commercial.
